There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female. When Paul wrote these words to the church in Galatia, he was not envisioning a future where the walls that divide people are broken down. He believed those walls had already been broken down, not in the larger culture but in the church. That is why he prefaces his statement with these words, “As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” When we were baptized, the walls that divide us were broken by the Spirit of God. Our job as the church is to live like those walls no longer exist and set an example for our community. That is our challenge.
