Ho! Ho! Ho! Okay, I must admit I was having a little fun with the sermon title for this Sunday. Isaiah 55 begins with the Hebrew word, hoy, which the NRSV translates as Ho. It’s not a word you generally hear except at Christmas when Santa Claus chuckles, “Ho. Ho. Ho.” A better translation might be “hey”, or “listen up”, or “come closer”. The intent of the Hebrew word hoy it’s to get our attention. Isaiah uses it because he doesn’t want people to miss out on the abundant life that God is offering.
“Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live.”
