When the disciples entered a village ahead of Jesus, they were shocked to learn the Samaritans who lived there were not excited to see him. Perceiving this as an insult, James and John got mad and wondered if the best course of action was to command fire to come down from heaven and consume these ungrateful people.
How many times have you wished you could command fire to come down on the people who wrong you or your sense of justice? It’s easy to lose our temper, especially when we believe our anger is justified. This Sunday, Jesus reminds us that we cannot let our anger sidetrack us from our ultimate destination. Instead, we must keep our focus and move on.
