First Presbyterian Church believes that mission is not something we do for others, it is something we do with others. In keeping with this understanding of mission, we have partnered with the following organizations within our community to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our neighbors. To find out more about our partners, you can click on their name and it will take you to their website.
Center for Food Action
The Center for Food Action ministry helps to share the love of Christ with the hungry and the homeless. CFA has locations in Bergen and Passaic counties.
The congregation donates food every week to the Mahwah location of CFA and at Thanksgiving time creates special baskets for the families in need. The church also has a garden and donates the fresh produce to the Center for Food Action. During the summer of 2020 the church grew and donated 1,000 pounds of produce. We use our land, our time, the sun and the rain to glorify God and share God’s love in the form of healthy food with our neighbors.
Family Promise of Bergen County
A few times a year First Presbyterian Church works with Family Promise, an organization in Bergen County helping working families overcome the crisis of temporary homelessness. First Presbyterian houses these families for a week.
Their vision is to have a community where every working family has a stable home and the means to create a better life. Their mission is to empower homeless working families to become self-sufficient by providing temporary housing and personalized support.
Family Promise works with families to get them back to work and find permanent housing. One of the organization’s goals is to raise funds to purchase or lease a building that will temporarily house these homeless families.
Center For Hope and Safety (formerly Shelter our Sisters)
The Center for Hope and Safety assists women and children who are victims of domestic violence. The agency provides emergency and transitional housing, emotional support, and a diversified continuum of services focused on safety, empowerment, and self-sufficiency. Part of our ministry involves donating Christmas gifts to the women and children of Hope and Safety. During this time of COVID-19 we are also providing monetary support to the shelter.
The center was founded in 1976. They strongly believe that every person has the right to be safe, empowered, and free from violence and the fear of violence. Their mission is to help women heal and grow through a wide range of services that give them the tools they need to leave the violence, and empower them and their children for new beginnings.
Camp Johnsonburg
For more than fifty years, Johnsonburg has established a tradition of acceptance in providing unique opportunities for people to follow the way of Christ and to function peacefully and positively in a changing world. Camp J’burg is a place apart where all people can experience God’s love within a welcoming Christian community. Every year we support Camp Johnsonburg and send campers and counselors to camp. At camp they grow in their faith, participate in camp activities and make friends.
New City Kids
New City Kids holistic approach of fusing music with academic, leadership and spiritual development New City Kids engages young people of all ages to create a strong, loving community. A community where 100% of seniors graduate high school and go on to college, Ramsey Presbyterian Church donations help support the Jersey City and Paterson programs.
New City Kids offer after school programming for local low-income youth. Children and teens get a chance to explore music and academics in a creative and fun environment. Though there are many challenges of urban life, especially for youth, these programs give children a safe place to feel and hear that they are valued and loved. New City Kids aims to draw children into hope by developing in them skills, talents, and desires for their future. By surrounding them with a community of love and development, the organization strives to set youth on a path of transformation that will carry them forward for the rest of their lives.
